“Every child must receive all the opportunities and chances to grow up in good health, go to school, be educated and become a responsible adult.”Convention for the Rights of the Child – New York, 1989 These rights must be guaranteed to every child, boys and girls, who are living in urban as well as rural zones. Too many rural areas obey to local costumes disregarding domestic legislation. Because of this, they penalize millions of children whose rights are, therefore, not respected. Limited access to education and healthcare, unregistered children, high rate of HIV/Aids, early marriages, sexual abuse: these are the problems that children face, reducing hence, their chances for a better future, their chances to become a “responsible adult”. Providing with simple external help is not the good solution. These children deserve appropriate instruments and opportunities for learning, education, and information. Once these tools are in their hands, they will be able to break this circle involving lack of education, poverty, early marriages, HIV and limited access to health cares because they are not registered. Thanks to the involvement of the children in the realization of their own rights, they are able to open a new window closed until now: a new future for them where they will be able to be respected. |
